This page explains how our reference material and tools are built.
Statute summaries
Each statute summary restates what a section of the Florida Statutes covers and the offense level it sets. A summary is not the law. Each one links to the official text, which is the version that controls.
Maximum penalties
Where we give a maximum jail or prison term or a fine, it is the general maximum for that offense level under sections 775.082 and 775.083, Florida Statutes, or the specific figure in the statute that creates the offense. Many offenses have their own minimums or enhancements. A maximum is not an estimate of the sentence in any case.
Glossary
The glossary gives short, general definitions. The precise meaning of a term can depend on the statute, rule, or court involved.
Interactive tools
- The tools are educational. They do not predict outcomes, recommend a legal strategy, or decide eligibility for sealing, expunction, diversion, or anything else.
- What you select or type into a tool is saved only in your own browser so you can come back to it. It is not sent to us.
- The contact form is different: a message you send through it is delivered to us so we can reply.
Local information
Information about Pinellas County courts, the jail, and local offices comes from the official websites of those bodies. Hours, locations, and procedures change, so confirm them with the office concerned.
